Selecting a LED lamp or fixture is not a simple matter mainly because LEDs don’t work like any other light and they often times don’t look like any other light either. This is because instead of a glowing burning filament in the light bulb there are chips in LEDs, lots of them, usually about 1/16” square to 1/8” square. These chips are like dots that light up.

• They don’t get hot, only nicely warm, no matter how bright the light.
• They love the Cold. Cold temperatures make them last longer and can be made to glow brighter. They hate Hot temperatures and in fact are not good for desserts.
• They don’t dim like a filament lamp so to make them look like they are dimming they have to have special electronic circuits built into them. The circuits make the dots blink….really fast so you can’t possible see the flashing, only the average amount of light.
• LED lights are also very color selective so to make a LED lamp put out light like an average light bulb, it requires careful selection in the manufacturing process and special coatings.
• IMI does all of the work for you when we select a replacement lamp. We even test to make sure the special coating last so that a year later the lamp doesn’t completely change.

What you should do.

Look at the light bulb you are replacing, Find a similar one on the IMI home page. Find one with the same or higher wattage. If you are replacing a regular incandescent light bulb, select the warmest color temperature LED lamp. (look for 2700K or 3000K) If you want to use the lamp on a dimmer, make sure the LED is a dimmable lamp. If you are concerned with light coverage, try matching the beam angle or beam spread of light. Pay attention to indoor and outdoor replacements. That’s it.
